Retirement plans are back on for Lacey Fire District 3 Chief Jim Broman, who was not selected for the chief position at the City of Redmond.
Broman, 66, told his staff early last month of his plans to leave effective June 30 but also that he was offered an interview with Redmond for its fire chief position.
Redmond Mayor John Marchione announced last week he had selected Kevin Donnelly, fire chief of Lodi, Calif., for the position, according to a city news release.
“I felt comfortable with their decision,” Broman said, though he admits there was a small twinge of disappointment from not being chosen.
“But that’s pretty minor for me at this point,” he said.
Earlier this month, the Lacey board of fire commissioners appointed assistant chief Gary Pearson to an interim fire chief position. Broman remains chief through the end of June when Pearson will fill in until a replacement is found. The move to appoint Pearson early was made to help the district during the transition period, Broman said.
The board of fire commissioners has not hired a search firm for the pending vacancy, Broman said.
