An 86-year-old Yelm man was injured and his 1994 Toyota pickup totaled when he apparently fell asleep while driving on 138th Avenue at Bald Hills Road, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Raymond D. Herbrand was westbound on 138th when he drifted to the right shoulder, then veered back to the left, striking a tree and fence to the left of the road, according to the State Patrol. He was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
Herbrand was not wearing a seat belt. Drugs and alcohol are not thought to have played a role in the crash.
