A man wearing a black ski mask Monday afternoon was denied entry to the Timberland Bank in the 800 block of Trosper Road, and police were trying to locate him.
Employees did not allow the man entry after seeing that he had a ski mask down over his face, said Tumwater police detective Jen Kolb, who added that employees said the man also seemed to be using an umbrella to shield his face.
For a customer to get into the bank, an employee has to buzz him or her inside from an exterior foyer area, Kolb said. Kolb said that Timberland Bank is the only bank that she knows of that keeps its doors locked during business hours.
Kolb said employees were frightened as the man repeatedly and violently pulled on the locked door. “All of them thought his intent was to rob the bank,” Kolb said.
Never miss a local story.
The man eventually picked up his umbrella and walked outside, Kolb said.
Tumwater police were searching the area Monday, Kolb said. He was described by Kolb as about 6 feet tall, with a large build and a “big tummy.” He was wearing bluish-gray mechanic’s coveralls.
Anyone with information that can help identify the man is encouraged to call the Tumwater Police Department at 360-754-4200.
