Daniel Borota, Olympia, was named to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the fall 2010 semester at The Johns Hopkins University. Borota is the son of Vaslie and Dorca Borota and attended Capital High School.
Wesley Gurrad, 18, of Olympia has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a state-level Certificate of Excellence from the 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Gurrad was nominated for this award by A.G. West Black Hills High School in Tumwater.
Emma Garrison, daughter of Olympia residents Kurt Garrison and Patricia Baxer, presented Frack Attack: How Hydraulic Fracturing for Natural Gas Threatens Human Health, at the 25th annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research held at Ithaca College. Selection to the conference was competitive. Garrison was among 3,000 students representing some 440 colleges and universities nationwide.
Nathan J. Schmedake has been awarded an Air Force ROTC scholarship to attend a host college or university. He is the son of John W. and Ruth K. Schmedake, and brother of Katherine A. Schmedake, Olympia.
Qureish Hakim of Olympia has been awarded $2,500 through the Presidents Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year at Eastern Washington University. He is the son of Jennifer and Saifuddin Hakim of Olympia.
Emily Moore of Olympia has been awarded $2,500 through the Presidents Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year at Eastern Washington University. She is the daughter of Joyce and Dan Moore of Olympia.
