The United Way of Thurston County gave Joyce Gillie the Gladys Burns Human Resource Award on Friday.
The winner is chosen based on length of service, effect on community need, reputation, leadership and activity involvement.
Gillie received the award during a luncheon; she was given a plaque and a $500 stipend to go to the nonprofit organization of her choice.
Gillie has been a United Way volunteer since 1946, when she was a 21-year-old Roosevelt Elementary School teacher, said Paul Knox, executive director of The United Way of Thurston County.
Never miss a local story.
