Thurston County’s unemployment rate dropped just 0.2 percentage points year over year, to 6.6 percent in October.
Pierce County’s unemployment rate dropped to 7.5 percent last month, down 0.4 percentage points from October 2012, according to county-by-county data released Tuesday by the state Employment Security Department.
At the county level, the data isn’t adjusted for seasonal events such as weather, harvests and school schedules.
Thurston County had a net gain of 1,100 jobs, almost all in the public sector. Its year-over-year gain is 300 jobs.
As for the labor force, 1,000 more people started looking in Thurston in October compared with the month before, while Pierce had about 2,000 fewer people.
