A Tacoma man was killed in a crash involving an off-road vehicle at Capitol State Forest in Thurston County.
The Washington State Patrol was investigating the crash, which occurred Saturday afternoon about 2 miles from the Rock Candy Mountain entrance off state Route 8 in Thurston County, according to State Patrol trooper Guy Gill.
The deceased man was one of three occupants who were riding in a four-seat utility task vehicle, also known as a UTV or side by side. After rounding a corner, the UTV went off the roadway and rolled down a 50-foot embankment, Gill said.
The deceased man was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the UTV as it rolled, Gill said. The other two occupants had been wearing seatbelts and were uninjured, Gill said.

The state patrol is notifying the adult male victim’s next of kin before his identity is released. Investigators have not confirmed whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, Gill said.
