For the third year in a row, the Little Red Schoolhouse Project broke an attendance record.
The Olympia-based nonprofit outfitted 3,668 Thurston County students in need with backpacks of school supplies, socks, underwear and coats during its daylong event Thursday, according to co-chair Judy Kimeldorf. That’s up from 3,133 students in 2013.
This year’s event was at Komachin Middle School in Lacey. Organizers were excited about setting up the retail store-like event there since the majority of participants have traditionally been from North Thurston Public Schools, Kimeldorf said.
“If they invite us back, we will be there (next year),” she said.
