A fire destroyed a vehicle in the WorkSource Thurston County parking lot Thursday afternoon, according to the Tumwater Fire Department. No one was injured.
Capt. Brian Hurley said firefighters responded to the scene at about 12:45 p.m. and found a 1994 Chevy Beretta engulfed in flames. A bystander had tried to put out the fire using a fire extinguisher but couldn’t open the hood of the car to reach the source of the fire.
Firefighters were able to cut open the hood and extinguish the fire using 400 gallons of water.
An engine malfunction caused the fire, Hurley said. The car was totaled. The fire didn’t damage the WorkSource office.
