A 36-year-old man was taken to the hospital Monday night after a house fire near Rochester, according to the West Thurston Regional Fire Authority.
Firefighters arrived at the home, located on the 29400 block of Billie Mills Road, at about 9:15 p.m. and it was already engulfed in flames, said Lt. Lanette Dyer. The fire reportedly started in the garage and spread to the house.
A man in his 50s and his 36-year-old son were able to escape, but the son was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital to be treated for burns, Dyer said.
“We’re thankful that no one else was hurt,” Dyer said. “And we’re looking forward to the man’s recovery.”
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to neighboring properties, but the home is likely a total loss, said Cpt. Gary Stone, the department’s fire investigator. The department is investigating the cause of the fire.
