Lakefair is coming, and it begins with the Capital Lakefair royalty scholarship program coronation, which is set for 7 p.m., Jan. 31 at the Red Lion Hotel Olympia.
Here are the participants for 2015:
Cassie Andresen, Tumwater High School; Claire Berry, Black Hills High School; Emily Grahn, River Ridge High School; Kathalina R. Hoffman, Northwest Christian High School; Julia Holder, Olympia High School; Clarissa Jenkin, North Thurston High School; Madeline Poultridge, Avanti High School; Olivia Wittenberg, Capital High School; and Judie Wang Timberline High School.
The candidates will be judged on a 500 word essay, personality, appearance, speaking ability, poise, confidence, overall reaction to pressure, maturity and punctuality, according to a news release.

“A queen and court will be selected to represent Capital Lakefair at parades and events across the state. Each participant will receive a $500 scholarship. The five young women who are selected to serve on the 2015 Royalty Court will each receive an additional $2,500 scholarship, while the queen will receive an additional $4,500 scholarship. Each scholarship recipient has five years in which to use their scholarship monies towards any type of higher education: traditional degree, trade school or vocational training program.”
