A fundraiser called “Dinner at the Well” will be held Saturday, March 21, at the Artesian Commons in downtown Olympia.
Each $50 ticket buys two gourmet meals — one for the buyer and one for someone who lives on the streets downtown. The catered meal will be held in a heated tent with seatings at noon and 3 p.m. The Artesian Commons is home to the historic artesian well and is a popular gathering spot for the street community.
The event is organized by Partners in Prevention Education (PiPE) and the Interfaith Works Overnight Emergency Shelter. The goal is to bring people together from diverse walks of life to enjoy a meal and build relationships.
Most of the food is being donated by downtown restaurants, said Renata Rollins, PiPE board member. Proceeds will go toward PiPE’s community-building activities at the park such as craft workshops, talent shows, movie nights and more. Event organizers note: “There’s a lot of talk about improving downtown, but any way you slice it, the best solutions usually involve food.”
