The Lacey City Council retreat that was set to take place on Thursday has been canceled because the city did not provide sufficient public notice about the meeting.
The public notice for the retreat was posted on the city’s website about 3 p.m. Wednesday for a meeting that was set to begin at 8 a.m. Thursday.
Lacey City Manager Scott Spence said that although the date of the retreat was well known to city staff and council, the city didn’t take the extra step needed to notify the public.
“It did not get done,” he said.
If Thursday’s retreat had taken place, the council would have been in violation of state law regarding open meetings, which requires at least 24 hours’ notice to the public, such as posting the information online or on a city building.
The retreat will be rescheduled, he said.
