Hoquiam businesses are throwing a benefit party Saturday (June 13) to help the community’s recovery from last winter’s flooding and landslides.
The Hoquiam Strong fundraiser will feature food, music and appearances by two Seattle Seahawks players and two players from the Seattle Mist women’s football team.
The event runs from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the new Summerhaven subdivision on Sanderling Drive in Hoquiam. Funds collected will be distributed to residents whose homes were condemned after the January floods, said Michael Vellani, who developed Summerhaven Homes with business partner Michael Zblewski. Vellani said the funds will primarily aid elderly people who can’t fix their homes themselves.
Donated canned food will go to the Grays Foundation Food Bank.
Seahawks receiver Paul Richardson and running back Demitrius Bronson are expected to attend, along with Emily Woods and Katie Whelan from the Mist. Woods graduated from Hoquiam High School in 2008.
