The economic power of the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay has extended its reach to a Lacey business that embroiders apparel.
Co-owner Lynn Grantham said Budd Bay Promotions & Apparel on Martin Way is the welcome recipient of an on-demand business partnership this week with Under Armour, a sportswear brand.
Under Armour was prepared to go with a different embroidery business for the golf tournament, she said, but after that fell through, Budd Bay, through its connections in the community, landed the work.
“We’re more than happy to do it,” Grantham said. “It’s quite a feather in our cap.”
So on Monday, 14 boxes were delivered to its Martin Way address containing 750 garments, a mix of polo-style shirts, vests and quarter-zip, moisture-wicking pullovers.
And all of them need to have embroidery that says: 2015 U.S. Open Chambers Bay.
Of those 750 garments, 300 were completed on Monday and then delivered Tuesday morning.
Now, the business is waiting each day for a phone call to determine how many more they have to embroider and ship to the Chambers Bay merchandise store, Grantham said.
It was all hands on deck Monday for the eight-employee business, including Lynn and John Grantham, the other owner and her husband.
The Granthams worked late Monday night to complete the work, Lynn Grantham said.
Dollar-wise, it’s not a huge order for Budd Bay, John Grantham said about the work they’re doing for Under Armour, but the prestige of the account goes a long way.
“It just helps our credibility,” he said. “We can look back and say, ‘We did this.’”
