Between June 30 and July 13, crews will remove nine high-risk trees along Legion Way in Olympia.
The nine trees slated for removal — three sweetgum and six oak trees — have been marked with white paint dots. They are at 523 Central St. SE, 521 Quince St. SE, 907 Legion Way, 1011 Legion Way, southwest corner of Legion Way and Boundary Street, 1128 Legion Way, 525 Pear St. SE, 1128 Legion Way, 1113 Legion Way and 1015 Legion Way.
The city reports that sections of Legion Way will be completely blocked to traffic during the tree removal. Work will take place between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The entrance to the Madison Elementary School parking lot will remain accessible via alternate routes.
The trees are being removed because of extensive decay. They will be replaced with red oak trees, according to the city.
