Capital Mall will offer a new free concert series, Concerts in the Promenade, from 3-8 p.m. Fridays, Aug. 7-28.
The free public concerts will feature local jazz, soul, rock, dance and country bands on the Capital Promenade next to Chico’s clothing store. Guests just need to bring lawn chairs.
Every Friday, students from the Rhythm Fire School of Music and Performance will be on stage from 3-5 p.m. They will be followed by an artist or a band of a different genre each week.

6 p.m. Aug. 7: Derik Nelson, an Olympia born singer/songwriter and also was a guitarist on the television show “Glee,” performs his original pop and jazz numbers.
6 p.m. Aug. 14: Free Rain, a six-piece cover band based in the Seattle area, performs music you can dance to.
6 pm. Aug. 21: Soul Siren, a cover band that does music of the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and today.
6 p.m. Aug. 28: Jones & Fischer, a duo that does country and southern rock.
A silent auction in the Artists’ Gallery will benefit the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter.
