Thurston County Commissioners voted last week to officially establish an Agritourism Advisory Committee.
The seven-member committee will make recommendations to the commissioners regarding the Agritourism Overlay District and the Thurston Bountiful Byway, a scenic route through the heart of the county’s most picturesque rural and agricultural lands.
The committee will work with the Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater Visitor and Convention Bureau under a memorandum of understanding to develop a marketing plan for the Thurston Bountiful Byway.
Other duties could include the review of membership applications from interested businesses, nonprofit organizations and governmental entities.
Thurston County Commissioner Sandra Romero said she hopes the committee will promote a new kind of tourism in the area.
“This tourism program will highlight the bounty of our region and showcase not only the beauty of the area, but the hospitality of our rural citizens,” she said in a press release.
Membership on the committee is open to the public. For more information, visit co.thuston.wa.us/bocc/.boards-list.htm.
