The Rochester Middle School Leadership class will serve a free Thanksgiving meal to about 500 people on Saturday.
The 24th annual event is planned by seventh- and eighth-graders who put together the menu, set up the dining room, serve the meal and clean up after the event.
The class sent letters to local businesses for donations to help fund the dinner.
“We have been very pleased with the response. This has been a favorite community event and it receives a lot of local support,” said teacher Jen Littlefield. “Our food service employees also do quite a bit of work on this event. We couldn’t do it without the support of the district and the local business community.”
The meal will be combined with a holiday bazaar organized by the school’s Booster Club. The bazaar will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the meal will be served from noon until 2 p.m. in the commons area at Rochester Middle School.
Anyone is welcome to attend. Visitors will be entertained by the school’s jazz band during the meal.
