Fire damaged a west Olympia house Tuesday, but no one was injured.
The cause of the fire, which seriously damaged the front of the house and its attic, was unknown Tuesday.
Erik Gordon, 21, lives in the house at 4511 Fifth Ave. NW and was in the backyard, about to leave, when he saw that the front of the house was engulfed in flames. Gordon unsuccessfully tried to douse the flames with a garden hose. He then dialed 911.
“I was in the backyard, moving everything inside the house,” Gordon said. “I went back inside again, and I was about to leave, and then the whole front was on fire.”

Olympia and McLane Black Lake fire departments responded at noon. By 12:30 p.m., the fire was contained.
A smaller house just feet from the burned house was not damaged.
Gordon lives at the home with his girlfriend and another friend, but they were not there at the time of the fire.
Officers will conduct an investigation to determine the fire’s source and what can be salvaged.
