Lacey police are investigating a fatal crash Wednesday afternoon on Carpenter Road as a vehicular homicide.
Witnesses say a Chevy Blazer involved in the crash was being driven recklessly and ran a stop sign when it entered the road from a side street, Lacey Police Cmdr. Joe Upton said. It spun out into oncoming lanes of traffic in the 3500 block of Carpenter Road about 4:30 p.m. and was struck by another vehicle after passing a school bus on the right-hand shoulder of the road, Upton said.
After the crash, the Blazer caught fire, and it was engulfed in flames when fire units arrived. A woman who has been identified as Anja Thompson, 25, suffered severe injuries and was flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she died Wednesday night, Upton said.
The driver of the Blazer also was flown to Harborview, Upton said. The driver of the vehicle that struck the Blazer was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital, he said. There were no other passengers in the two vehicles, Upton said.
There is no evidence that the Blazer’s driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, he said.
