Several people have been contacted recently by an unidentified person claiming to be from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and trying to obtain credit card information, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The calls are part of a scam, and people should not give out their information.
“This is not, nor has it ever been a practice of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office or any law enforcement agency that we know of,” read a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office has started investigating the calls. Anyone who is contacted by someone claiming to work for the Sheriff’s Office and asking for credit card information should report the incident by calling 360-427-7761.
