The Washington State Patrol is searching for a suspect who is believed to have been involved in human trafficking in Thurston, Pierce, King and Snohomish counties.
An arrest warrant was issued for Mikael Z. Williams, who is believed to have assisted his older brother Michael Williams and Curtis Escalonte in trafficking underaged girls. Both Escalonte and Michael Williams are being held in the Pierce County jail on sex-related charges, according to WSP.
The WSP’s Missing and Exploited Children’s Task Force began investigating the men after a mother saw her 15-year-old runaway listed in a sex advertisement on Backpage.com, according to WSP. She contacted law enforcement.
The investigation revealed that Escalonte, 23, and Michael Williams, 22, were engaged in trafficking underage girls for commercial sex using Tacoma area hotel rooms and advertised the girls on Backpage.com throughout early December.
Detectives learned that Mikael Williams was aware of the sex trafficking, rented some of the hotel rooms used and expected to be paid for his part in the business, according to WSP.
Mikael Williams is wanted on suspicion of promoting commercial sex abuse of a minor.
