Three suspects accused of peering into parked cars and testing door handles in the Capital Mall parking lot were arrested Thursday, according to the Olympia Police Department.
A female suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and forged checks, a second female suspect was arrested on a theft warrant and a male suspect was arrested on a narcotics warrant.
The police department gave the following account of the incident:
Officers responded to the parking lot at about 10:30 a.m. after receiving reports that two women and a man were walking around looking into car windows and trying to open car doors. Police located two of the suspects sitting in a Dodge car and pulled out behind them.
A man and a woman climbed out of the car, and the woman ran toward the mall ignoring officers’ orders to stop. Police found her trying to break into a locked mall bathroom and detained her. The male suspect complied with police.
The second female suspect was found in the parking lot trying to break into a Ford truck. She was arrested.
Officers discovered that the Dodge car had been reported stolen. Police found stolen checks in one woman’s purse and a stolen credit card in the car.
