Two men were arrested Sunday after the state troopers caught them racing at 105 mph on Interstate 5 in Tumwater.
The two suspects were racing their white Subaru Imprezas just before 5:30 p.m. Feb. 22 on northbound I-5 when they passed a Washington State Patrol trooper near the Trosper Road exit.
One of the suspects exited the freeway at U.S. 101, while the other continued north on I-5, said Trooper Guy Gill. State troopers caught up to both suspects and arrested them for reckless driving. The 18-year-old Auburn man and the 31-year-old Olympia man were booked into Thurston County Jail.
The speed limit is 60 mph on that stretch of I-5. Gill said the suspects weaved in and out of traffic, and also drove on the shoulder.
“Sundays are big travel days. Traffic was not light,” Gill told The Olympian. “These individuals were clearly putting a lot of people at risk.”
Gill noted that the suspects’ Subarus were 2004 and 2005 models.
