Downtown Olympia’s Artesian Commons Park was once again the site of conflict Wednesday afternoon, according to the Olympia Police Department.
No arrests were made, but a suspect sprayed two people with mace during an altercation. A report was sent to the city prosecutor’s office for consideration of fighting in public charges.
The Olympia Police Department gave the following account of the altercation:
Officers were dispatched to the park on Wednesday afternoon following reports of a physical disturbance. Three men said that they entered the park and were mobbed by a group of six people.
Never miss a local story.
The men said they were pushed multiple times by a woman, so one of the men took out a can of mace and sprayed her. But members of the larger group said that the altercation was never physical, and that the man sprayed the woman without warning.
Video surveillance of the park showed that the larger group started a verbal altercation, and that the woman shoved two men. One of the men sprayed the woman with mace and started to walk out of the park.
One of the woman’s friends confronted him, and the suspect sprayed the friend with mace.
