A woman died Tuesday after her car left the roadway and landed in the Hood Canal, according to the Washington State Patrol. The woman’s name won’t be released until her next of kin is notified.
The driver had been traveling north on Highway 101, about 10 miles north of Shelton, when her car veered to the right. The car drove down an embankment, struck a tree root and landed top-down in the water.
The car drifted about 50 feet from shore, flipped over, then sank about 10 feet.
The woman was pulled from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the car, and no one else was injured.
