Olympia police arrested a man Wednesday morning after he was allegedly found stealing from an impound lot, located on the 600 block of Devoe Street SE.
The Olympia Police Department gave the following account of the arrest:
Officers responded to the impound lot early Wednesday morning after a witness reported seeing a man peering into the windows of vehicles in the fenced-in lot. When officers arrived, the man tried to leave through a large hole cut in the fence.
He told officers that he had been “rummaging,” and he was carrying bags full of cellphones, an MP3 player, a car radio faceplate and other items that he confessed were stolen from the lot.
Never miss a local story.
While searching the lot, officers smelled gasoline and found two fuel cans under an RV the suspect had been hiding behind. Officers believe that the suspect had been siphoning gas prior to their arrival.
The man was booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary, theft and vehicle prowling.
