For the 38th consecutive year, the Altrusa Vocational Recognition Awards have been awarded to eight graduating high school seniors. The award recognizes students who are working in a job while completing their high school credits. At a dinner April 28 at Indian Summer Golf and Country Club, Altrusa International of Olympia honored the following students: Chase Herring, Capital High School; Brandon Morris, CHOICE High School; Lindsey May, North Thurston High School; Jessica Thurman, Olympia High School; Mayra Mojica, Rochester High School; Bradley Turner, Shelton High School; Ashley Aulis, South Sound High School; and Zak Reichel, Yelm High School.
The Thurston County Democrats will present the 2009 Evalyn Poff Scholarship. to Joel Bray, Olympia High School; Anna Stusser, Olympia High School; Anna Grzankowski, River Ridge High School; and Caleb Hayes, Running Start. Alternates are Lisa Nguyen, Capital High School and Kim Bauer, Olympia High School.
Western Washington University student Kodi Wilson, daughter of Gregory and Robyn Wilson of Olympia, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Western Washington University student Emily Wallen, daughter of Norm Wallen and Linda Schactler of Olympia, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009- 2010 academic year.
