SOUTH SOUND HIGH SCHOOL
Parent /Guardian(s): Virginia Harris
Achievements in Category: “Hardships and challenges have helped me discover what is truly important. I endured a chaotic childhood, lost at least 10 family members and friends to death, including my father in March of 2009. Shortly after my father’s death, I awoke to the sound of glass shattering, due to fire that had engulfed our house. Luckily, I was able to wake the family and all were able to safely escape our burning home, but our material loss was complete. Most of my life has been spent in poverty, but I have learned that material items can be replaced, and I recognize that an education is one thing that cannot be taken away. Now I know what people are talking about when they say, ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’ ”
Never miss a local story.
