The White House says a University of Washington professor has won a presidential award for excellence in science mentoring.
Michelle Williams established a program to train students from economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds for research and leadership careers in public health. Through the program she set up, undergraduate students visit and study in developing countries. Then they work with partners in those countries to address real global public health problems.
Williams is co-director of the Center for Perinatal Studies at Swedish Medical Center.
