Washington state weighs new escalator safety rules following strangling death

Following the strangulation of man on a Seattle escalator last year, the state Department of Labor (L&I) and Industries is considering a rule change that would require a certain type of automatic stop switch on all escalators. Right now, older escalators aren’t required to have the safety device known as a comb-impact switch.
