Greg Grunenfelder is taking over as assistant secretary for the state Department of Health, the agency announced today. His move to overseeing day-to-day operations takes effect Tuesday.
Grunenfelder is a former environmental health director for Thurston County who joined the state agency in 1997 as director of its Office of Drinking Water. He has been assistant secretary at DOH for the Division of Environmental Health since 2006. He previously worked 20 years for county health departments in Lewis, Thurston and Pierce counties, and most DOH said.
The agency quoted Secretary Mary Selecky as saying: "Gregg has a wealth of experience in public health I'm confident that experience and his strong leadership skills will be tremendous assets for us, especially during these tough times."
Update: Grunenfelder will earn $119,000 a year.
