Gov. Chris Gregoire helped tribal leaders and Grays Harbor County officials celebrate the start of construction of the new state Route 520 bridge on Saturday.
Transportation Secretary Paula Hammond said that Saturday’s windy weather was a perfect example of why the SR 520 bridge over Lake Washington needs to be replaced. Hammond said a windstorm could put the vulnerable bridge out of commission, KBKW radio reported.
The building contractor said actual construction could begin as early as Thursday.
