The state Liquor Control Board will close 14 of its stores beginning Thursday. The list of closures includes stores in Lacey, Tacoma and Federal Way.
The closures are due to reduced staffing levels, as some employees have left their jobs because of impending privatization of liquor sales in the state.
“The decision came down to how best to re-appropriate staff while at the same time maintaining uninterrupted service to all areas,” said Chris Liu, liquor board retail director.
The closures will make available some 60 employees who will be reassigned to positions in stores that will remain open.

The South Sound-area closures include:
• Lacey-Hawks Prairie, at 8205-C Martin Way E.
• Tacoma-Portland Avenue, at 1415 E. 72nd St.
• Federal Way-South, at 34512 16th Ave. S.
Other closures will affect stores in Seattle, Bothell, Bellevue, Everett, Mercer Island, Longview and Vancouver.
Three stores – in Belfair, Ocean Shores and Friday Harbor – will operate at reduced hours.
