Thurston County Democrats have announced their endorsements following a monthly meeting of its members this week. They are backing Democrat Karen Valenzuela for the Thurston County commission job she was appointed to; Republican Pat Beehler also is running in the Nov. 3 race.
The Democrats refused take sides between two Democrats running for the nonpartisan Port of Olympia commission, but they did pick Pete Kmet over Neil McClanahan for Tumwater mayor. Here is the list of endorsements:
County Commissioner, Karen Valenzuela; Port Commissioner District 3, Jeff Davis and David Peeler; Lacey City Council Position 4, Cynthia Pratt; Position 5, Andy Ryder; Position 6, Ron Lawson; Olympia City Council Position 4, Karen Rogers; Position 5, Jeff Kingsbury and Steven Buxbaum; Position 6, Joan Machlis and Jeannine Roe; Position 7, Joe Hyer; Tumwater Mayor, Pete Kmet.
The Democrats also voted to support the ‘Yes on Approve 71’ referendum for domestic partnership rights, and to reject Initiative 1033, the tax-limitation measure. All Democrats who had applied for campaign services were on the endorsement ballot, according to party officer Debby Pattin.
