Note:Reference to Martha Kongsgaard's role is corrected; Henderson campaign says it erred in its announcement.Stew Henderson reported Monday that he won the sole endorsement of the Sierra Club's Cascade Chapter for his Democratic campaign in the 22nd Legislative District. He earlier won endorsement by the Washington Conservation Voters and Thurston Conservation Voters.
Also running for the seat held by retiring three-term Democratic Rep. Brendan Williams are Republican Jason Hearn of Lacey; Democrats Chris Reykdal and Judi Hoefling, both of Tumwater; Progressive Dem Steve Robinson of Olympia; Demo Party candidate Jeremy Miller of Olympia; and Prolife Democrat F.G. (Fred) Jensen of Olympia.
Reykdal has reported winning more sole endorsements than Henderson – including the Washington State Labor Council’s endorsement. Among those endorsing Reykdal are the Washington Federation of State Employees, Thurston-Lewis-Mason Central Labor Council, American Federation of Teachers-Washington, Washington Public Employees Association Local 365, Machinists Local 751, and firefighter associations representing Thurston County, Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater.
Henderson is the Thurston County Democrats’ official nominee for the position. He put out a news release saying he also is backed by Thurston County commissioners Sandra Romero and Karen Valenzuela, former Department of Ecology director Jay Manning (who now is Gov. Chris Gregoire’s chief of staff), Martha Kongsgaard, vice chair of the Puget Sound Partnership, and Climate Solutions leaders including Beth Doglio of Olympia.
