The state Department of Corrections has appointed Eleanor Vernell as the superintendent at Cedar Creek Corrections Center, a minimum-security prison near Littlerock. She will remain the superintendent at Larch Corrections Center near Vancouver until it closes this summer.
Vernell joined the Department of Corrections in 1984 and has worked in both the prisons division and the community corrections division.
Cedar Creek houses offenders who are near their release dates. Most of the offenders at Larch will be transferred to McNeil Island Corrections Center once Larch closes.
Charlie Washburn will continue to serve as the acting superintendent at Cedar Creek until Vernell arrives.
