Linda Bremer announced Friday that she is quitting her job as the director of the state Department of General Administration, effective April 5. Gov. Chris Gregoire announced that her deputy chief of staff, Joyce Turner, will take over the agency that day.
The governor’s announcement didn’t mention what Bremer plans to do or what prompted her to resign.
Bremer sent agency employees an e-mail Friday that mentioned she is moving on to “the next chapter of my life. I have a deep desire to fully utilize my gifts and talents on behalf of others. I am fortunate to have such enriching experiences as a springboard going forward.”
The announcement appeared to catch agency workers off guard.
Never miss a local story.
“I’d say it came as a surprise to a lot of people,” spokesman Steve Valandra said.
Turner will be paid $120,587 a year, according to Gregoire’s announcement.
