EVERETT – A witness who was close enough to be splattered with blood says a police officer overreacted in shooting and killing a suspected drunken driver.
The witness, Elizabeth Thornes, had been knocked down when the man’s white Corvette hit a fence Wednesday night outside a restaurant, the Chuckwagon Inn.
She said the man was boxed in by police cruisers, and there was nowhere for him to go.
“That gentleman died senselessly,” she told KING-TV,

A 41-year-old officer, an 11-year veteran of the Everett department, is on administrative leave.
Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said everything happened quickly and that the shooting is under investigation.
