I am currently serving at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. I know that all military benefits are subject to changes, but I would implore U.S. Rep. Denny Heck to argue not to decrease any of our benefits.
Most military members have enough to worry about without the added stress of not knowing whether or not our benefits will exist in the near future. I have been following the cut proposals very closely and I know that some battles have been won on the behalf of military members, some are on armistice and plenty are ongoing. This is to express my concern regarding the basic allowance for housing (BAH) for military members with dependents.
My wife and I are both active duty members and we have two dependents. The housing allowance that we receive makes sure that we have decent living arrangements. We both serve, and we deserve the benefits that we receive.
Cuts to either of our benefits is un-American and also shows our nation’s lack of interest when it comes to taking care of those who serve. Reducing military benefits is not the answer to federal budget cuts.
