Puget Sound Energy (PSE) must stop its coal plant Colstrip by 2025. Even though the Colstrip Coal Plant is located in Montana, the dirty air produced there enters the atmosphere and travels here to our region of Olympia, Tumwater, and Lacey.
After attending the Climate Reality Program training, I was surprised to hear that our energy comes from the Colstrip Coal Plant. I am angered by this and know we need to take action.
With the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement, this is even more crucial now. Several cities in the U.S. have already achieved 100 percent clean energy such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Salt Lake City. It is unacceptable for PSE to sign onto another decade using Colstrip power when solar and wind power costs decreased by over 60 percent between 2009 and 2013.
Clean air is possible and we the people need to let our voice be heard: shut down Colstrip.
