My excellent Washingtonians, I am fine with voting in favor of safe storage and background checks as responsible gun owners welcome holding themselves to a higher standard. I reject limits on magazine capacity and how the Legislature in Olympia is setting up the dominoes to eventually ban ownership of what is dubbed the assault rifle.
In America, we have the heroic concept that a powerful citizenry is an important component to a free and democratic society, which is why firearms ownership is enshrined as a civil right. It stems from Enlightenment thinking in England and has been part of our national fabric in the settling of this continent, securing our independence, expanding our frontiers, and winning the West.
The current measures being introduced castrate these ideals that we have inherited and has the potential to turn thousands of ordinary people into criminals. The number of lives such limits could potentially save would be viewable through a microscope as the common handgun moderates swear they won’t go after are the real killer in the streets. This is known by law enforcement professionals and the legislators who deal with reality on reality’s terms.
This nobler concept of freedom we are giving up is a bad trade for the scant safety and false comfort to be gained. We’re the home of the brave; we’ve got to prove it every day.
