In addition to the excellent letter by Carolyn Roos, if organizers had focused on the main purpose, we wouldn’t have had a disorganized group instead of an organized march.
Two hours of speeches while participants were expected to wait in the rain, wind, and cold. Two paths for the stroll (not a March), one around the lake and another around town. Plans on the website not matching the plans reported by The Olympian. (The Olympian turned out to be correct, but who knew?)
If a helicopter reported from overhead, they would have seen thousands of people milling all over town for three hours instead of a big show of unity to support women and minorities. Unless organizers learn from the mistakes, focus on the main purpose, and correctly advertise the plan, any third year event will be even smaller.
Thanks organizers, but please do better,
