Our governor understands the sacrifice state employees have made. I wish people would compare the state employees wages and benefits to the private sector, then they would really know the truth. State employees are huge contributors to the economy of Washington state, so when you take and take from them, they have nothing left to give back to stimulate the economy.
Employment sectors that should never be messed with are those that protect us, including law enforcement, firefighters and medics. Take away their pay and benefits and see the effects of their broken backs. I’m sure They would feel the betrayal by the public.
With the state employees having no financial gain, only cuts, to look forward to, I doubt there will be much contribution to Washington state’s economy by the 335,000 plus state employees.
I’m sure there are some small worthless programs that can be cut all together for a few years. I for one would not mind paying a tax increase for a few years only. A few cents here and there could have prevented lost jobs and cutbacks. Do the math if only one penny of sales tax was paid from just state employees each month.
