A big "hoorah" for former fire chief Larry Glenn's letter regarding the practice of on-duty fire department personnel driving fire equipment to the store to pick up food for lunch and dinner.
I have witnessed Olympia and McLane equipment at the Safeway parking lot in West Olympia many times, sometimes even at the same time.
Surely fire department staff can bring all of the food they need to complete their assigned shift when they report to work.
Emergency personnel perform an important community function. This includes the appropriate use and care of taxpayer funded equipment.

Hopefully, those responsible for the management of these services will stop this practice of using big-rig equipment for store runs.
Don’t just pass the practice off as good public relations or “everybody does it.” To many of us taxpayers, this food run practice is a significant negative that should be stopped.
