Recently, state Route 520 was partially closed so crews could begin installing electronic tolling devices. I'll leave the issue of funding through registration, licensing, and taxes to another writer.
It seems that this public road will have tolls regardless of what the Legislature — which has yet to take up the issue — eventually decides.
Or, perhaps more accurately, the blatant disregard for legal process is evident by these actions and should be investigated by law enforcement.
While the fate of this road does not personally affect me, I urge our elected officials to disapprove this measure on principle. It can not be allowed that anyone can flaunt a matter of law for the sake of expedience.
Simply put, this is shameful.
