Letter writer Patrick Yirka asked, "Why don't conservatives rail against education?"
He apparently hasn’t been paying attention. Has he never heard of charter schools? They exist because people railed against poor quality, high cost, government controlled, union dominated school systems.
My guess is that some were conservative.
I’m moderately conservative not right wing Republican and definitely not a progressive Democrat as Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi profess to be. That’s not an accusation, it’s an admission on their part.
Progressives apparently don’t honor our Constitution. I disagree with some parts, but I’m unwilling to throw out the baby with the bathwater.
I believe in fiscal responsibility in my home and in all phases of government including schools, fire departments, police, etc. Granted society can and does benefit from community sponsored programs, but when they are unwillingly forced upon us behind closed doors, it is not democracy, it’s socialism.
That is the manner in which the current health care system was handled and I consider that wrong.
It isn’t that I want to deprive anyone of a happy, healthy life, but like the charter schools, I am sure it can be handled in a better way. It has all the earmarks of socialism and is not affordable in the long run. It’s not an unwillingness to pay, it’s an inability to pay.
Consider that any time we allow government to do anything for us, part of the cost is a bit of our freedom.
