If the governor is right and we have no budget options but to cut vital support to many of my fellow citizens, then please raise my taxes.
The cuts that have already been passed hurt pregnant women and newborns and the cuts coming down the pike will leave more families without insurance, pull out the rug from the disabled and sacrifice the education of our present generation.
Our budget dilemma is not about reforming government or getting rid of waste. It is a test of our collective moral will to care enough to take care of those who need our help.
I love this country and I especially love Washington. I challenge you to join me in demanding higher taxes to keep our safety net intact and fulfill the bond between citizens to assure that the poor, the vulnerable and all of us together have the support necessary for the pursuit of happiness.
