I need to respond to Mark Turner's letter regarding writing more traffic tickets. We all have seen traffic violations and wish a police officer was there when you want. Driving through downtown Olympia is difficult with so many pedestrians crossing against the signals or in the middle of the block.
It is the height of arrogance that some folks don’t think they need to take turns and follow the rules like everyone else. So yesterday on my way through town a person crossed in the crosswalk against the green light for traffic and right in front of a police officer. He pulled over immediately and talked to the person. It was great, although I don’t know if he received a ticket or was even able to be aware he was crossing against the light. It was just nice to see action taken.
